Miss Stark Dies at 77

Miss Bertha E. Stark, 77, widely known former Webster City school teacher, died Monday noon at the Brentwood Nursing home in LeMars, Iowa, following an illness of several years.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. R.D. Kitterman and with burial in the Lawn Hill cemetery at Stanhope.

Bertha Ellen Stark, daughter of Frank M. and Mary [Jane Hudson] Stark, was born Oct. 11, 1883, at Stanhope. In 1897, following the death of her father, she moved with her mother and sister to Webster City. She was graduated from the Webster City high school with the class of 1902, later attending and graduating from Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls.

Miss Stark taught for 43 years in the Webster City schools, most of that time serving as principal of the South elementary school. She retired from the teaching profession in 1948.

She is survived by one brother, Truman Stark of Monrovia, calif., and by six nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Miss Stark was a member of the Methodist church, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Quill club and the JOY, Wesleyan Service Guild.
