ELLSWORTH - Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Bethesda Lutheran church in Ames for J.E. Sogard, 80, with Rev. Boe in charge. Rev. L.A. Pierson of Sioux Falls, S.D., a former pastor, gave the sermon. Mr. Sogard had been bedfast for more than a year following several strokes. He had lived in Ames for the last 35 years. Prior to that he was cashier of the Stanhope State bank for 17 years and also farmed near Stanhope. Mrs. Sogard, the former Marie Textrum of Stanhope, and two sons, Harold and Dean, preceded him in death.

He is survived by two sons, Marvin E. of Charles City and Walter of Colton, S.D.; two daughters, Irene of Ames and Mrs. Delma Bertholet of Idaho; also 8 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one sister, Mrs. Dora Cedar of Minneapolis.

Burial was in the cemetery [Lawn Hill Cemetery] near Stanhope.
