A Good Woman Gone

Mrs. James Sneesby died at her home five miles south of Stanhope last Sunday night after a long and painful illness. Death had been expected for several weeks, and her entire family was with her when the end came.

Mary Smart was born in Cambridge county, England, May 16, 1836, and died November 12, 1899, aged 64 years, 5 months and 27 days. She was married to James Sneesby on June 1st, 1856. They came to this country and settled in Allamakee county, Iowa, in 1858. They moved to Squaw Creek, Clear Lake township, Hamilton county, Iowa, in 1872. There were born to them eleven children, nine of whom survive. Mrs. Sneesby was converted and joined the Lutheran church in 1866, and was a member of that church 6 years. She became a member of the M.E. church in 1872, and was a loyal Christian until the day of her death.

The funeral services were held at the M.E. church in this city on Tuesday afternoon. The remains were laid away in the cemetery [Lawn Hill Cemetery] southeast of town. The many friends of the deceased woman extend heartfelt sympathy to the sorrowing family.

Now favored are they in the Lord who have died,
From care and from labor reposing!
Their works, going after, will always abide;
How peaceful their journey when closing!
