HEART ATTACK IS FATAL TO E.R. SCHMIDT

Funeral Services for Kamrar Merchant Will Be Tomorrow

E.R. Schmidt, 85, died suddenly at 2:15 p.m. yesterday at his home in Kamrar, death being caused by a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at the home with the Rev. H.F. Schmidt, of Stanhope, and the Rev. C.K. McNary, of Kamrar, officiating. Burial will be made in Lawn Hill cemetery at Stanhope, with Foster's in charge.

He was born and reared in Borkum, Germany, and came to the United States at the age of 25 years, locating in Germantown, Neb. Although he had received an extensive education in Germany, he entered the Germantown schools for a year to learn the English language.

The second year in Germantown he became depot agent for the Chicago & North Western railroad company, which position he held ten years. He was united in marriage Aug. 30, 1884, to Miss Anna Kate Luft, of Germantown, and to this union six children were born, one son dying in infancy.

In 1890, the family moved to Salix, Iowa, where he was depot agent until 1900. He then became interested in the general merchandizing business and he opened a store of his own in Ricketts, Iowa, where he lived until 1905, when he disposed of his business and moved to Moorhead. After a year and a half residence there the family moved to Gilbert where Mr. Schmidt owned a mercantile store for two years.

He and his family then moved to Kamrar where he owned a mercantile store until he retired in 1926.

He leaves his wife, a son, Herman E.J. of Marshalltown, and four daughters: Mrs. John Neal, of Moorhead; Mrs. Oscar Kennedy, of Dexter, Minn.; Mrs. William Kennedy, of Clarion, and Mrs. D.R. Knight, of Stanhope.

There are 17 grandchildren, one great grandchild and a niece, Mrs. William Gress, of Holcumb, Ill.

He was baptized in the Christian faith in Germany and was a member of the former Christian church at Kamrar.
