Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Thursday, June 1, 1922

The community was saddened Thursday afternoon when the news went out that George F. Kepler had passed away. George Franklin Kepler, third son of Adam and Elizabeth Kepler was born June 23, 1863.

He had always made his home in Hamilton county, having grown to young manhood at the home of his parents in Hamilton township, known as the Saratoga community. On March 22, 1887, he was married to Laura Arabella Bute. To this union were born ten children, two of whom preceded the father in death. He is survived by two brothers and a sister, his wife, eight children and nine grandchildren. The brothers are Wm. L. of Spencer, Otis of Stanhope, and his sister, Mrs. Emma Snyder, of Stanhope. The children are Mrs. George Lafrentz, of Marshalltown; Mrs. John Sterner of Renwick; Eugene of Estherville; Mrs. William Larson of Winnebago, Minn.; Mrs. Paul Walterick of Des Moines and Dewey, Weldon and Helen, at home.

While the deceased has always been connected with agricultural work, he has had time to engage in other activities, both civic and commercial, having served on the Stanhope school board for many years, being a member of the board when both school buildings were erected. He also served as a town official. He conducted the harness shop almost four years, having sold out about two years ago. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen and Masonic lodges. Mr. Kepler was always ready to help in any public activity that was for the good of the community.

Death came after several months' suffering and was not unexpected by the family. Death was caused by cancer of the liver.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Sunday morning, May 28, Rev. F.W. Wilson, of Stratford M.E. church, conducting the services.

The impressive Masonic ceremony was given at the Lawn Hill cemetery southeast of Stanhope by the Acorn lodge No. 601, of which he was a member.
