Injuries Received in Runaway Fatal to Stanhope Man

Funeral of Martin Granville, 43, to Be Held Sunday

STANHOPE, IOWA, Nov. 12 - Martin Granville, 43, died at the county hospital at 9 o'clock last evening, death being cause from injuries received in a runaway Tuesday afternoon at his farm home near Stanhope.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Hilman Granville home, two miles southwest of Stanhope, on the Stratford road. Services will also be held at 2 o'clock at the Lutheran church at Stanhope, the Rev. Oppedahl officiating. Burial will be made at the cemetery [Lawn Hill Cemetery] southeast of Stanhope. Foster's in charge.

Mr. Granville was husking corn at his farm Tuesday afternoon, when his team, becoming frightened, started to run. In an attempt to stop them Mr. Granville was pinned between the wheel and the wagon box, and suffered six fractured ribs and a punctured lung.

Mr. Granville was not married. He is survived by two brothers, Albert Granville and Hilman Granville, both residing near Stanhope, three nephews, Marlin, Herbert and Orlin, and two nieces, Ruby and Florence. There are also many other relatives and friends. His parents [Owen and Mary Granville] and two brothers preceded him in death.

Born in Newark, Ill., Feb. 4, 1888, Mr. Granville came to Hamilton county in 1899 and since then had made his home in the Stanhope community. He was a painter for many years and during the World war he saw service in France with the 338th field artillery. He was overseas 11 months. In March he and his brother, Albert, moved on a farm where they were living when the accident occurred. He was a member of the Lutheran church, of Stanhope.
