Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Thursday, December 29, 1938

Hugh Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Anderson, was born Nov. 22, 1879, at Mulmer, Ontario, Canada, and died at his home in Stanhope Sunday morning, Dec. 25, 1938. His age was 59 years, 1 month, 2 days.

On Dec. 5 he became ill and gradually grew worse so that he was taken to the hospital in Webster City Dec. 9. While at the hospital he improved sufficiently to return to his home on Wednesday, Dec. 21. About 8 o'clock Saturday he grew suddenly worse and died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

On May 17, 1907 he was united in marriage to Nora Healey, at Wyndmere, N.D. For a time after their marriage they made their home in Canada. In 1915 they moved to Stanhope where they have since resided.

There were six children born to this union. They are as follows: William, Cecil, Henry, Marjorie, Harold and George. Cecil died in infancy and Henry died four years ago.

For a number of years Mr. Anderson served as section foreman on the North Western railroad. He also served as janitor of both the Christian and the Methodist churches in Stanhope. Recently he has been employed on a number of WPA projects. He was always busy and when not otherwise employed he busied himself with his garden and cutting wood for his fuel supply. He was a good neighbor and always willing to help anyone in need.

When he came to Stanhope he joined the Christian church, but later transferred to the Methodist church where he held membership at the time of his death.

Mr. Anderson was considerate of his family and when not busy at his work he would be found at home with his family.

He leaves to mourn his going his widow, three sons, William of Onawa; Harold and George at home, and Marjorie, now Mrs. Clayton Crabtree of Lohrville, and one grandson, of Galva. Also two half brothers, E.G. Anderson of Lake Park, Minn., and John Anderson of McIntosh, S.D., and one half sister, Mrs. Healy Cole of Iowa Falls. Also his stepmother, Mrs. William Anderson of Wyndmere, N.D.
