Leonard F. Tegels, 68, longtime Stanhope area resident, died Tuesday night at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines where he had been a patient the past week.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Stanhope, Rev. Rolfe Johnstad will officiate. Burial will be in Lawn Hill cemetery.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today until 8 a.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral Home.

Leonard Frank Tegels, son of Andrew and Laura Tegels, was born Sept. 15, 1917 at Breda in Carroll County. He was reared and educated there.

March 12, 1940 he married Lillian Kruckenberg. The couple farmed in the Litton and Fonda areas.

The family moved to Stanhope, making their home on a farm 6 miles south of the community. He semi-retired in 1971 and the couple moved into Stanhope.

He is survived by his wife, one son, LeRoy Tegels of Story City; two daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Duane) Wheeler of Story City and Laura (Mrs. John) McFarland of Hurst, Texas; six grandchildren, his stepmother, Regina Tegels of Fonda; a sister, Dorothy (Mrs. Edgar) Heisterkamp of Breda; a half-sister, Phyllis (Mrs. Ray) Redlinger of Breda; two half-brothers, Robert Tegels and Donald Tegels, both of Fonda; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Mr. Tegels was a member of Our Savior Lutheran and the Antique car club.
