Earl L. Sorenson, 65, longtime resident of the Stanhope community, died at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines where he had been a patient the past six weeks.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Christian church in Stanhope with the Rev. James Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill cemetery at Stanhope. Military services will be held at the grave.

The body will lie in state at the Foster funeral home until 10:30 Monday morning, when it will be taken to the church.

Earl Leon Sorenson, son of Jacob and Matilda Sorenson, was born Oct. 28, 1895 on a farm near Stanhope, and was reared and educated in the Stanhope community. He entered service in World War I, and following his discharge he returned to the Stanhope vicinity, later moving to Minnesota.

He was united in marriage Dec. 7, 1932 to Minnie Neuman and Mr. and Mrs. Sorenson resided in Minnesota until 1941, when they returned to Stanhope where Mr. Sorenson was employed on a dairy farm with his brother-in-law, Eugene Knight. He was later employed at Selheim Produce in Stanhope and for the past 11 years had owned and operated the Sorenson café at Stanhope.

Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Darald (Bonnie) Feaker of Cedar Rapids, four grandsons, Michael, Dennis, Duane and Mark Feaker; three sisters, Mrs. E.S. Knight, Stanhope, Mrs. Everett Cowen, Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. Helen Scott, Chicago, and two brothers, Harris Sorenson, Romeo, Colo., and George Sorenson, Albuquerque, N.M.

He was preceded in death by a son who died in infancy; by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Mr. Sorenson was a member of the Christian church at Stanhope and a member of the American Legion post at Webster City.
