Snyder Rites To Be Friday

Funeral services for J.E. Snyder, 85, will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church in Stanhope, preceded by a brief service at 1:40 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Read, in Stanhope.

Mr. Snyder, a longtime resident of Stanhope, died Thursday evening at 11 o'clock at the Hubbard Nursing home where he had been a patient since Oct. 12. He had been in poor health for several years.

John Edward Snyder, son of Abraham and Mathilda Snyder, was born April 14, 1865 on a farm near Bellevue, Iowa. When he was three years old he came with his parents to a farm east of Stanhope. He was educated and reared in the Stanhope community.

He was united in marriage July, 1890 to Cora Jane Kepler, and they started housekeeping in Webster City where Mr. Snyder was engaged in the well-drilling business. They resided here two years, then moved to Stanhope where they had built a new home. After living there for several years, they sold their home and purchased a farm near Kamrar, living there for five years. They then bought a farm two miles north of Stanhope where they lived until 1916 when they moved into Stanhope. Mr. Snyder owned and operated a butcher shop in Stanhope for several years before retiring.

Mr. Snyder was preceded in death by his wife, who died in 1921, by one son, who died in infancy, by his parents, five sisters and one brother. He is survived by two sons and four daughters: Lowell of Stanhope, Luverne of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. C.G. (Golda) Scott of Stanhope; Mrs. C.J. (Agnes) Tjernagel of Mt. Vernon, Wash., Mrs. Harry (Hazel) Read of Stanhope and Mrs. Arthur (Berniece) Christenson of Jewell. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one brother, Andrew Snyder of Stanhope.
