Robert E. Parker, 58, of Moline, Ill., a former resident of the Stanhope community, died Sunday morning at the Moline Public Hospital. He had been in ill health the past year and a half.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. William Van Dam officiating and with burial in the Lawn Hill cemetery near Stanhope.

Robert Emerson Parker, son of William and Gertrude Gumtau Parker, was born April 20, 1927 at Stanhope and was educated there, graduating from Stanhope high school in 1944.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended Creighton University, Omaha, and Iowa State University School of Journalism, graduating in 1949.

He was employed by the Deere and Co. in 1964 at Moline, Ill.

March 18, 1967 he was united in marriage to Darlene Sitzman at Evanston, Ill., and the couple resided in Moline.

He retired in 1984 as film production manager in the advertising department of Deere and Co. Since his retirement, he established a free-lance writing business called Robert Parker and Associates.

He is survived by his wife; one son and one daughter, William Parker of Philadelphia and Kathryn Parker of Winter Springs, Fla., one grandson, Jonathan Parker; his mother, Gertrude Parker of Stanhope, and one sister, Mrs. D.G. (Gertrude) Johnson of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his father, one brother and one sister.

Those wishing to give memorials may give them to the American Cancer Society or to the Journalism Department at Iowa State.
