Funeral services for Mrs. David (Mary Ann) Mechem, 40, of Clarion, a former Stanhope resident, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist church in Clarion with the Rev. Myron Brockmeyer officiating and with burial at 3 p.m. at the Lawn Hill cemetery near Stanhope.

The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral home here through Wednesday evening. It will lie in state at the church from 9 a.m. Thursday until the time of services.

Mrs. Mechem died in an auto-truck accident Monday night near Albert Lea, Minn.

Mary Ann Parker, daughter of William and Gertrude Gumtau Parker, was born Feb. 7, 1934, at Stanhope where she was reared and educated, graduating in 1951.

She attended the former Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls and the University of Colorado. She later taught school in Roland, Clear Lake, Goldfield and for the past 15 years at the Clarion schools.

She was married Oct. 4, 1957 to David Mechem, and the couple had always lived in Clarion.

She is survived by her children: David Dean, 12; and Sue Ann Jane, 10; her mother, Mrs. Bill (Gertrude) Parker of Stanhope; a brother, Robert Parker of Moline, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. D.G. (Gretchen) Johnsn of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her father and one brother.

She was a member of the First United Methodist church at Clarion, the NEA, and various other teachers' organizations.
