Manley Rites Set Thursday

Funeral services for Mrs. Chester (Alta) Manley, 71, a former Stanhope resident, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Robert Karl Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill cemetery near Stanhope.

Mrs. Manley died Sunday afternoon at the Oak Hill hospital, Joplin, Mo.

Alta Davis, daughter of Charles and Elizabeth McFarland Davis, was born Oct. 16, 1895, at Stanhope and was reared and educated in the Stanhope community.

She was united in marriage Dec. 22, 1915, at Webster City to Chester Manley. The couple resided at Webster City for six years, then moved to Des Moines where they lived for six years before moving to Omaha. After living in Omaha for 20 years, they moved to Eldorado Springs, Mo.

She is survived by her husband; three sons and two daughters, Chester Manley, Jr., Omaha, Donald Manley, Wappello, Mo., Edward Manley, Council Bluffs, Mrs. Nyle (Opal) Carey, Omaha, and Mrs. Charles (Ellen) Clark of Whitesboro, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers and three sisters, Roy Davis and Furman Davis, both of Stanhope, Earl Davis, Story City, Clair Davis and Charles Davis, both of Webster City, Mrs. Chris Toppenberg, Jewell, Mrs. Edgar Whalen, Stanhope and Mrs. Leo Dick, Oakland, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by one son, Orville, who died at the age of 22; one granddaughter, Diane Joyce Manley; one grandson, John Manley; one sister, Mrs. Archie Amundson; a twin brother, Frank Davis, and her parents.

She was a member of the Christian church.
