Funeral services for Mrs. Fred (Maybell) Long, 81, longtime Stanhope resident, will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Grace United Methodist church in Stanhope with Rev. William Van Dam officiating. Burial will be at Lawn Hill cemetery in Stanhope.

Mrs. Long died Wednesday morning at the Mary Greeley Medical Center at Ames where she had been a patient the past three weeks.

Visitation will be at Foster Funeral home from 6 p.m. Wednesday until 9:30 a.m. Friday when the casket will be taken to the church.

Maybell Ruth Fosberg, daughter of John A. and Amanda C. Peterson Fosberg, was born April 24, 1901 on a farm south of Stanhope. She was reared and educated at Stanhope.

She was married to Fred A. Long on Nov. 16, 1923 at Boone. The couple resided on the Fosberg family farm south of Stanhope until 1941 when they moved into Stanhope.

Mr. Long died in September, 1967 and Mrs. Long continued to make her home in Stanhope where she was a news correspondent for several area newspapers for 40 years. She also served as a cook at the Stanhope schools for 19 years, retiring in 1966.

She is survived by two sons and two daughters, Larry B. Long of Carroll, Lonnie B. Long of Des Moines, Mrs. Jim (Lorraine) McVicker of Boone and Mrs. Raymond (Lois) Danielson of Ellsworth; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence Fosberg of Stanhope; one sister, Violet Bricker of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dale Leon, who died in infancy; and one sister.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist church at Stanhope, the United Methodist Women, the Royal Neighbors of America, the E.O.T. club, Senior Citizens and Senior Serenaders band.
