Orvie H. Johnson, 84, rural Stanhope, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, at the Story City Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, at 1:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope, Rev. Neal Solomonson and Rev. Enoch Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill Cemetery southeast of Stanhope. Visitation at the Foster Funeral Home of Webster City is after 7 p.m. today until 10 a.m. Saturday. Memorials may be made to the Story City Memorial Hospital or Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Orvie Harris Johnson, son of Malchi and Martha (Sexe) Johnson, was born Feb. 8, 1906 in Randall, where he was educated. He married Jeanette Okland on Oct. 23, 1929 at the home of her parents in rural Jewell. The couple farmed in the Randall and Jewell areas, moving to Stanhope in 1942, where they continued to farm. They moved onto the family farm in 1946. In addition to farming, Mr. Johnson worked for the Quaker Oaks Company in Stanhope for 12 years, and for 20 years, delivered milk for Carnation. He retired in 1978.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, Stanhope; two daughters, Beverly R. (Mrs. Berwyn) McCaskey, Ames; and Bonnie Rae (Mrs. Richard) Whalen, Boone; a son and daughter-in-law, Dan A. and Patty Johnson, Duncombe; another daughter-in-law, Wilma Johnson, Stanhope; 13 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five sisters, Gladys Tjernagel, Alvina Tjernagel and Grace Schwiebert, all of Story City; Hazel Alley of California; Lavonne Hanson, Jewell; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Eugene and Michael; and a brother, Myles.

Mr. Johnson was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and served on the Stanhope Community School Board.
