Richard J. Jans, 66, Stanhope, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 25, at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames, where he had been a patient for two weeks. He had been in failing health for the past two years. Services were held 1:30 Saturday, Dec. 28, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Stanhope, with the Revs. Neal Solomonson and Lloyd Weiland officiating. Burial was in the Lawn Hill Cemetery, south of Stanhope. Foster Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Richard John Jans, son of Hilko and Ella Mechaelsen Jans, was born Aug. 29, 1925, on a farm near Kamrar. He graduated from Kamrar High School in 1943 and started farming in that area.

On Feb. 25, 1951, he married Lorraine Law at Duncombe. The couple farmed one year in the Kamrar area and in 1952 moved to a farm south of Stanhope.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, sons, Dale and David, both of Stanhope; five grandchildren; brothers, Wallace Jans, Ellsworth, and James Jans, Kamrar. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Stanhope.
