Fred L. Detmering, 75, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the Southfield Wellness Center in Webster City.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor Nicholas Thackery, officiating. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at North Lawn Cemetery where military rites will be presented by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard and the V.F.W. Post 1856. A visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home.

Fred is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Dennis Detmering and wife Karla of Fort Dodge; Curtis Detmering and his wife Angie of Indianola; grandsons, Alec; Cole; Clay; Mason; brother, Ted Detmering of Pahrump, NV; sisters-in-law, Jackie (Vernon) Schulze of Humboldt; Marge (Skip) Hubrich of St. Cloud, MN; Marian Bird; and brother-in-law, Max (Sally) Redenius of Gilmore City; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Delores (Funk) Detmering; grandson, Ryan Detmering; brothers, George; Earl Jr.; and Robert; brother-in-law, Tom Redenius; and sister-in-law, Patricia Redenius.

Fred was born September 13, 1941 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was raised in Lu Verne and graduated from Lu Verne High School in 1960. Fred then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served all over the world. He was honorably discharged in 1977. On October 3, 1964, Fred was united in marriage to Linda Redenius at the Chapel of Pines in Albany, Georgia. Fred was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards. He loved the outdoors especially spending time with his dogs.
