Funeral services for Melford A. Hove, 71, will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope, with the Rev. Neal Solomonson officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill Cemetery at Stanhope.

Friends may call at the Foster Funeral Home from 2 p.m. Wednesday until 9:30 a.m. Friday. Mr. Hove, a lifelong Stanhope resident, passed away Monday, May 25, 1987, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Melford Arnold Hove, son of Peter and Florence (Miller) Hove, was born Sept. 18, 1915 on a farm south of Stanhope. He was educated at Stanhope, was involved in the trucking business with his father, and later served with the Iowa National Guard.

He was married to LaVonne Wills on Sept. 18, 1940 at Stanhope. He operated the Hove Truck Line for more than 50 years, retiring in February 1983.

He is survived by his wife LaVonne, two daughters and three sons: Helen (Mrs. Roger) Peter and Mary (Mrs. James) Kepler, both of Webster City, Paul of Kewanee, Ill., Harold of Stanhope and Roger of Webster City; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Alma Rethman of Mira Loma, Cal., and Lenora (Mrs. Lowell) Ebersole of Arlington, Texas; one brother, Albert of Story City; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and was a past president and board member of the IMT Association.

He was a former member of the Stanhope City Council, a past president and board member of the Stanhope School Board, also of the South Hamilton School Board. He was a board member of the North Central Mental Health Assoc., and a past president of the Stanhope Senior Citizens.
