Williams Selectee Is Killed

E.B. SIMPSON DIED TUESDAY

Youth Fatally Injured in Tractor Accident at Williams

WILLIAMS, Iowa - On the eve of his departure as one of the July 1 contingent of Hamilton county selectees, Everett B. Simpson, 28, Williams, was instantly killed Tuesday evening about 9 o'clock when the caterpillar tractor he was driving in town crashed into a ditch. Simpson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben [Mary Ellen Doyle] Simpson, of Williams, died of a broken neck.

It is thought that Simpson lost control of the machine which he was trying out that evening, and the tractor ran off the street, plunging into the ditch one block south of the Williams schoolhouse.

Witnesses reported that Simpson fell off the machine which backed over him.

Simpson would have left Wednesday morning from Webster City as one of the selectees in the largest group of men ever called from Hamilton county in the present world-wide conflict. Approximately 60 men were scheduled to report for induction although several selectees were to report at different induction centers, some outside the state.

Simpson is the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Simpson, being survived by his brother, Kenneth, who is with the armed forces in Hawaii and five sisters: Mrs. Lawrence Schweppe, of Fort Dodge; Mrs. Howard McFarland, of Webster City; Nona Mae and Mary Celeste Simpson, of Waukegan, Ill., and Roslynn, of Williams.

Funeral services, with C.G. Rick in charge, will be Friday at Williams. [Sr Mary's Catholic church/cemetery, Williams, Iowa]
