PIONEER WOMAN DIES AT HOME

Mrs. J. E. Quackenbush Dead at Age of 77 After a Lingering Illness

FUNERAL TOMORROW

Had Been Resident of the City for 75 Years and Widely Known

Mrs. John E. Quackenbush, a resident of this community for the last 75 years, died at her home, 1600 Willson avenue, at 6:15 o'clock Saturday evening after a lingering illness. She was 77 years old.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the family home. Due to the absence of her pastor, the Rev. Thomas B. Collins, from this city, the Rev. Lumley, pastor of the Methodist church at Williams, will conduct the services.

Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Lorene, wife of Dr. F.F. Hall; two grandchildren, Mary and John Hall, and one sister, Mrs. Elva Howard, all of this city; also two brothers, I.I. Boak, of Denver, and C.C. Boak, of Tonopah, Nev. [the initials of her brothers are very hard to read so not positive]

An obituary will be published later.

Mrs. Quackenbush was one of Webster City's best known and most beloved pioneer women. Coming here in 1854 at the age of two years, she had seen the city grow from its earliest hamlet stage and the country hereabouts from its natural wild state to its present stage of high development.

She had been active and prominent in the social life of the city during all her adult life until age and physical disability came upon her. She was widely known for her fine character, her cordial hospitality and her keen interest in all that meant progress and betterment. She had been a life long member of the Methodist church and a regular attendant and worker in church circles until her later years during which she had been confined to her home much of the time.
