Carol Hegland, age 71, passed away on Wednesday, Nov 30, 2016 at her home in Ellsworth, IA.

Funeral service for Carol will be at 10:00 AM Monday, December 5, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Burial will be in the Homewood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM on Sunday, December 4, at the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Boeke Funeral Home of Radcliffe is in charge of arrangements.

Carol Ann (Ray) Hegland was born May 4, 1945 in Ames, Iowa to Herbert and Sylvina Ray.

Carol grew up in rural Jewell, Iowa, where she received her education and graduated from South Hamilton High School in 1963. She attended Iowa State University, Ames for two years.

On March 6, 1965 she married Merlyn John Hegland. After marriage, they started farming together west of Jewell. They had two children, son, David and daughter, Kristi. In 1976, they moved to their present location south of Ellsworth. Through the years, together, they fed cattle, hogs and raised corn and beans. Carol was an integral part of the farm, with a true love for the field work and all aspects of the farming operation.

Carol loved spending time with her family and friends. She especially loved attending her grandchildren’s activities. She was also very supportive of South Hamilton events as well as Iowa State activities. Carol was fortunate to have many good friends as well as a close family. She was truly an amazing and loving person with the ability to always have a positive outlook on life.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth.

Carol passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at her home after a long battle with cancer.Those thankful for having shared her life include her husband, Merlyn; son, David (Dawn) Hegland and daughter, Kristi Busch; six grandchildren John Hegland, Kenzie Busch, Alyssa Hegland, Karlie Busch, Aaron Hegland and Austin Busch; mother Sylvina Ray; brothers Daryll (Melissa) Ray, Sterling (Paula) Ray, and several nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Ray and nephew, David Ray.
