Lois Muriel Abrahamson was born on June 11, 1922 north of Dayton, Iowa on the family farm to Henry and Mabel (Olson) Abrahamson. She attended elementary school in Dayton to the seventh grade. In 1934 at the age of 13, Lois and her family moved to Jewell, Iowa, where she was confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in 1937. Lois graduated from Jewell High School in 1940.

Lois met the love of her life, Orlyn Flygstad, after a class play in Randall. They were married on February 4, 1945 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell, Iowa. Together they raised three children, Marge, Deb, and Steve on a farm southwest of Ellsworth. Lois was active at Bethesda Lutheran Church and served as president of Ladies Aid. Lois donated her time as a 4-H leader and was a very accomplished seamstress, making both her daughters’ wedding gowns. In 1987 Orlyn and Lois moved to Cherokee Village in Arkansas and lived there until 2006 when they moved back to Iowa to be closer to family. Famliy meant everything to Lois. Lois and Orlyn celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on February 4 2016. Orlyn passed away on April 21, 2016.

Lois was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Some of Lois’s favorite moments could be found sitting at a sewing machine fashioning clothing or crafts for her family, creating quilts, at the stove cooking wonderful meals, baking bread and cinnamon rolls, playing cards or dominoes with family and friends, sitting around a campfire with family, tending to her flowers and garden, and sharing a cup of coffee at the kitchen table with family and friends.

Lois passed from this life on November 15, 2016 at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Webster City at the age of 94 years.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 19 at 2 p.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Cremation will follow the service. Burial will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Soderstrum-Reimers Funeral Home in Jewell.
