MRS. BURGESS DIES AT HOME
Mrs. Edward Burgess, 83, longtime Webster City resident, died yesterday afternoon at her home in this city. While in poor health for several years, she had been seriously ill only the past three weeks.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. S. T. Lenters officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.
Elizabeth Sladden was born Oct. ?, 1863, in Chicago. She received her early education there, before the family came to Iowa and located at Webster City in 1881. She attended Cornell college, being graduated from that institution, following which she returned to this city.
She was married to Edward D. Burgess, a Webster City lawyer, who for 32 years served as librarian at Kendall Young library. Mr. Burgess died in 1930.
Mrs. Burgess was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister. She is survived by one grandnephew, Samuel Nelson Buell, and one great grandnephew, Charles Nelson Buell, both of this city.
Baptized in the Episcopal faith, Mrs. Burgess attended the Congregational church in Webster City, and was active in that church. She was a member of the D.A.R. and was one of the founders of the Women's club here.
During her husband's long association with the library, Mrs. Burgess assisted him with his duties there. She was widely known as having a great interest in the young people of the community, and was always active in civic and community affairs.
