Merrill Paige Phillips, 92, passed away on May 20, 2016 at his winter residence in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Merrill was born on November 12, 1923 as 2nd son to Russell and Inez (Porter) Phillips, Truro, Iowa.

He honorably served his country for 26 years, 3 in the US National Guard, 23 years in the US Army, Artillery/Pershing Missiles.

After Military Retirement he started his second career as Bank/Marketing Manager in the DOD Military Banking, Europe.

He lived overseas for 40 years, loved to see the world and travelled extensively in Europe, Asia and Africa.

He loved music and supported the arts. In Germany the Staedel Museum Frankfurt and the Cellini Society of the Goethe University Frankfurt, in Daytona Beach the Symphony Society.

Merrill is survived by his spouse Gertrud, his sister Ellen Timm, daughter Janis Hughes, both of Webster City, daughters Diane Hockett of Loveland, daughter Elaine Widmann of Golden, both Colorado, son Richard of Des Moines and Stepson Monte Kraft of Savannah, Georgia, with families.

The Military funeral ceremony will be held at Evergreen Cemetery at Jewell, 3:00 p.m. on June 24, 2016.
