Funeral Services for Hubert Peter, 92, of Boone, IA will be 1:30 pm Monday, February 22, 2016 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 281 Spruce Lane, Boone, IA. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Schroeder Funeral Home on the corner of 5th and Story Street from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Interment will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Boone, IA. Memorials are suggested to the Boone County Cancer Society. Online condolences may be left at www.schroederfuneral.com.

Hubert Levi Henry Peter, son of George John Peter and Helena Rambath Peter, was born May 17, 1923 in Harrison Township, Boone County, Iowa. Hubert died February 17, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA at the age of 92 years.

Hubert was raised on a farm and graduated from Story City High School in 1940. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army on October 23, 1944, serving during World War II in the 47th Infantry as a platoon sergeant. He was awarded the combat infantry badge, and three combat battle stars. He was honorably discharged on November 27, 1946.

Hubert learned the meat cutting trade at the Boone Super Value and was employed at the Algona Jack Sprat store and the Webster City Fareway. He operated the Phillips 66 Service and Country store at Highway 17 and E18 for fifteen years. Hubert returned to the meat cutting business, and took a meat cutting short course at Iowa State University. He bought the Stanhope Locker and operated it for twenty-five years as a very successful business.

Hubert was a member of the state and national meat cutting association. He served on the Board of Directors for the Iowa Meat Processors and Midland Power. He was a member and held offices in the Stanhope Lion's Club. Through the years, Hubert enjoyed gardening, growing roses, golfing, fishing, and traveling.

Hubert was a lifetime member and regular attender of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he was baptized, confirmed, married and buried. It was on June 20, 1948, that Hubert was united in marriage to Betty Lou Eckley. They were the proud parents of two children: Terry and Karla. Hubert and Betty were married for 66 years.

Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Betty who died February 21, 2014. He is survived by his 2 children: Terry Peter and his friend Sue of Weston, FL, and Karla Lippert and her friend Tim of Bonita Springs, FL; 5 grandchildren: Nathan Peter, Michael Peter, Lauren Peter, Sara Lippert, and John Lippert; 2 great grandchildren: Tallulah Peter and Paloma Peter; 3 brothers: Melvin Peter of Story City, IA, Richard (Pat) Peter of Ames, IA, and Jim (Carol) Peter of Ohio; 1 brother-in-law: Deanne Eckley of Boone, IA; other relatives and friends.
