Kathryn Rosa “Katie” [Ellefson] Hinrichs, 82, of Alden, Iowa passed away Wednesday, December 09, 2015 at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls. Funeral services for Kathryn Hinrichs will be 2:00 pm Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ, 212 West St., Alden, Iowa 5006. There will be a time of visitation with the family from 5:30 – 7:30 pm Saturday, December 12, 2015, at the Linn’s Funeral Home in Iowa Falls 1521 Washington Ave. Please visit our new website linnsfuneralhome.com for further information.

Kathryn Rosa Ellefson was born March 3, 1933 at her parents’ home in Hardin County to Maurice William and Rosa (Denger) Ellefson. She graduated from Alden High School in 1950. She was united in marriage to Lowell Keith Hinrichs on December 30, 1950 at the Memorial Congregational Church in Alden Iowa. She lived most of her life in Alden. She gave piano, accordion and guitar lessons for over 20 years. In 1974 she went to work as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Iowa Falls. She transferred to Webster City when the Iowa Falls office closed, and then worked in the Repair Division as a senior clerk at the US West office in Des Moines offices, retiring in 1994.

Katie served as organist at Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ (UCC) in Alden and St Mark’s Catholic Church in Iowa Falls. She was a member of Immanuel Memorial UCC, where she also served on the funeral planning committee for many years. She was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a Gold Star Member for over 65 years; she was also a member of the Northwest Bell Pioneers. She enjoyed embroidery and knitting, and was famous for her cinnamon rolls, homemade bread and sugar cookies.

Kathryn Rosa Hinrichs is survived by her children, 2 sons and 1 daughter: Donald Kristian (Kris) [Patty] Hinrichs of Iowa Falls, Kerryn [Mike] Oliver of Alden, and Kenyon R. [Debbie] Hinrichs of Webster City; one sister Delma Schnell of Webster City; 6 grandchildren: Danielle [Matt] Dunham of Nevada, Erin [Brett] Bandow of Alden, Melanie Hinrichs of LaQuinta, California, Rachel Hinrichs of Ankeny, Mark [Michelle] Oliver of Alden, Theresa Hinrichs of Ankeny; and 8 great-grandchildren: Maddie and DJ Dunham, Lilly, Addy and Kerrigan Bandow; Tegan and Gracie Oliver, and Jaxson Feeney.

Kathryn Rosa Hinrichs was preceded in death by her parents: Rosa and Maurice Ellefson; her husband: Lowell Keith Hinrichs in 2014; a brother: Donald Ellefson and a sister, Dola Sue Ellefson, in infancy.
