Florence G. Ewing Lamb, a resident of Walla Walla for the past 68 years, passed away Dec. 14, 2015, at the age of 95. Florence was born on Aug. 5, 1920, in Webster City, Iowa to Bernard and Elizabeth Williams Mills. She grew up and attended schools in the Midwest.
On Feb. 8, 1939, she married Henry T. Ewing in Tabor, Iowa. The couple moved to the Pacific Northwest at the beginning of WWII where Henry worked in the shipyards. After the war in 1947, they moved to Walla Walla.
Florence was a homemaker and actively involved with PTA, Blue Birds, Campfire, 4-H and church activities while their daughters were young. Florence was employed by the Walla Walla School District 140 for 27 years before retiring in 1982. She was awarded the Golden Acorn Award honoring people in education who make a difference. She was extremely proud of that honor for her outstanding work with the special physical needs classroom at Jefferson School.
Florence especially enjoyed her yard and gardening along with canning, sewing, reading and socializing with friends. She was an active member of the Blue Mountain Community Church and a past member of the Marcus Whitman Gem & Mineral Society, the Camera Club, the Homemaker's Society, Grace United Methodist Church and Barney School PTA.
Florence remarried July 14, 1998, to Wm. Paul Lamb in Walla Walla.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Henry T. Ewing (Apr. 13, 1992); second husband Wm. Paul Lamb (Oct. 18, 2008); her parents; three brothers, Ed, Jack and Roy Mills; and three sisters, Margaret, Evelyn and Myrtle. She is survived by two daughters, Grace and John Peek of Walla Walla, and Julie and Gerald Blair of Washougal, Wash.; along with four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Loyd and Robert; and two sisters, Lila and Mary.
The memorial funeral service will be held on Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the Blue Mountain Community Church. There will be a private family graveside. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA.
