The Daily Freeman JournalGary Dean "Gub" Christeson, 67, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on October 27, 2015 at Banner Baywood Hospital in Mesa, following a brief illness.
He chose to be cremated. Interment will follow at a later date.
Gub was born in Webster City, Iowa on January 26, 1948 to Donald Andrew and Kathleen (Butterfield) Christeson. He graduated from Webster City High School in 1966 and continued on to receive an Associate's Degree in Auto & Diesel Mechanics from North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in Mason City.
Gub was married to Becky Faust on December 26, 1970 in Hubbard, Iowa. They were married until 1988. This union was blessed with a daughter, Abby Lynne; that they continued to raise together, remaining "family" as the years passed.
Gub owned and operated "Gub's DX" filling and service station adjacent to "Katy's Cafe" in Webster City. Over the years, he farmed, worked in implement sales and service, parts departments, and was also a heavy equipment operator. Most recently, he was employed at Weisberg Implement in Webster City. He thoroughly enjoyed sprint car, and dirt track racing, spending many Saturday nights at the Knoxville Raceway, Hamilton County Speedway, Manzanita Raceway, and Canyon Speedway Park. Gub also enjoyed taking his quad out riding at the sand dunes. He loved his summers he spent in Iowa, attending the Hamilton County and Iowa State Fairs watching car races and tractor pulls. He also looked forward to the warm winters back in Arizona, but most of all, he loved being Mallory and Landon's "PaPa", and spending time with his family and friends.
Gub is survived by his daughter, Abby, her husband Brandon, and their children, Mallory and Landon of Queen Creek, AZ, a brother Tom (Norma) Christeson of Webster City, nieces, Trisha (Jeff) Bach, and Kari Christeson all of West Des Moines, nephews, Todd (Laurie) Christeson of Stanhope, and Scott (Andrea) Christeson of Webster City, 10 great-nieces and nephews, his Aunt, Ruth (Christeson) Koolhof, and several cousins. Also left to cherish his memory are Abby's mother and Step-Dad, Becky and John Bednarz, very special friends, Darin and Debbie Dolezal, and Sherry Burris all of Arizona.
Gub was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Katy Christeson.
The family wishes to thank the many friends and extended family for the friendship, love and support over the years and during this very difficult time of Gub's passing.
