Daily Freeman Journal, Tuesday, July 27, 1965

W. G. Meyer, 89, longtime resident of the Webster City community, died this morning at the Hamilton County hospital. He had been in failing health for the past several months.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the St. Paul Lutheran church with the Rev. Arthur Oswald officiating and with burial in the Graceland cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral home until 10 a.m. Thursday when it will be taken to the church.

Wichie G. Meyer, son of Diedrich and Folke Meyer, was born Oct. 25, 1875, at Rantoul, Ill. He was reared and educated in the Rantoul community.

He was united in marriage March 9, 1902, to Margaret Marie Flesner, and the couple farmed in Illinois until 1906 when they moved to Iowa, locating on a farm west of Kamrar. They resided there for three years, then moved to the present farm two miles east of Webster City, the family home since.

He is survived by two sons and three daughters, Gerhardt Meyer, Webster City, Miss Pauline Meyer, Chicago, Ill., Walter G. Meyer of Camas, Wash., and Mrs. Merle (Helen) Snyder of Chewelah, Wash., and Mrs. Keith (Mildred) Van Winkle of Ames; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one brother, Gerhardt Meyer of Thomasboro, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife May 14, 1959; by one great-grandson who died in infancy, by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

Mr. Meyer was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran church.
