The Daily Freeman JournalEldon Anderson, 78, of Stratford, Iowa passed away at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa on Friday evening, August 21, 2015. He had resided at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa since February of this year.
He was born on July 1, 1938 in Boone, Iowa the son of Lester and Verna (Nelson) Anderson.
On March 31, 1962, he married Sharon Kay Hawkins at Riverside, California.
Eldon graduated in 1955 from Stratford High School. Following graduation, he moved to California where he worked for Sunkist Growers. He was later employed in the printing industry as a printer. In December of 1974, the family moved to Stratford, Iowa where Eldon took over the family farm operation until he retired in 1998. After his retirement, Eldon continued his interest as a printer by working at Sunstrom-Miller Press in Boone. Eldon liked to bowl, golf and especially enjoyed playing cards.
Eldon was a member of the Stratford Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stratford singing in the choir and serving as past president of the Church Board. He also served on the Stratford Mutual Telephone Company and Stratford CO-OP Boards during his life.
His parents; wife, Sharon in April of 2003; 1 brother, Paul and an infant sister, Marie preceded him in death.
Survivors include 2 sons; Matthew Anderson of Stratford and daughter-in-law Denise Moorman Anderson and Nathan Anderson and wife Sarah of Jewell, Iowa; 5 grandchildren Mariah and Kiersten Anderson both of Indianola, Iowa and Aaron, Jacob and Evan Anderson all of Jewell, Iowa; 1 sister Glenyce Anderson of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; 2 brothers David Anderson and wife Pat of Titonka, Iowa and Robert Anderson and wife Joyce of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; numerous nieces and nephews.
Service will be held on Friday morning, August 28th at 10:00 a.m. the Stratford Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stratford, Iowa with Pastor Joe Lambert officiating.
Interment will be in the Mineral Ridge Cemetery south of Stratford.
Friends may call at the Stratford Evangelical Lutheran Church on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends. Visitations will continue at the Church on Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In memory of Eldon, memorials may be directed to the Stratford Evangelical Lutheran Church or Bethany Life Communities in Story City, Iowa.
