Obituary for Milford Holt
January 23, 1920 - December 23, 2010

Milford Orville Holt was born on January 23, 1920, in Hamilton County, Iowa to the late George A. and Anna (Braland) Holt. He received his early education in Iowa before moving to Windom where he completed his education. He was confirmed at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. On April 19, 1946, Milford was united in marriage to Leona M. Van Gerpen at the Jeffers Baptist Church in Jeffers, Minnesota. Following their marriage, Milford and Leona lived on a farm in Great Bend Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota where they raised their family of four sons and one daughter. Milford farmed for many years along with working at TORO and Schweitzer's in his earlier years. In 1975, he retired due to health reasons. On December 3, 1984, Leona passed away. After her death, Milford continued to live on the farm until 2009 when he moved to Pine View Assisted Living in Windom before becoming a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom. A week ago, Milford was hospitalized at the Windom Area Hospital in Windom where he passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010, at the wonderful age of 90 years. Milford was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Windom. He also was a country school board member and on the Great Bend Township Board. Milford will be remembered for many things, including, going on camping trips with the family and fishing in his earlier years, playing cards, drinking coffee, making people laugh, sitting at Fish Lake watching the grandkids along with boat rides, driving around visiting his four sons and most of all, his love for his family, especially his grandchildren. Milford is survived by his five children, Jim (Marie) Holt of Windom; Roger (Tammy) Holt of Windom; Rodney (Carol) Holt of Windom; John (Judy) Holt of Windom; Lisa Holt (Kim) of Mt. Juliet, TN; seven grandchildren and one step-grandson; ten great-grandchildren and three great-step-grandchildren; one sister and one brother, Virgean Ziska of Sunburg, MN and Frank (Lenora) Holt of Murdock, MN; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Flaskegaard of Sheldon, IA; and nieces and nephews. Milford is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leona Holt; one brother, James Holt; and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Holt. Blessed be the memory of Milford O. Holt.
