Steve Gordon, 56, longtime resident of Webster City, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hamilton county hospital. His death was sudden, being attributed to a heart attack.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Foster funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.

The Rev. A. E. Rau will officiate for the services.

Steve William Gordon, son of Manley and Ella Gordon, was born Oct. 3, 1895, at Webster City and was reared and educated in this community.

He served in the armed services during World War I, and after his discharge returned to Webster City.

He was united in marriage March 20, 1919, to Eva Butrum, and with the exception of a few years spent at Fort Ripley, Kan., they had always made their home in Webster City.

His wife preceded him in death in 1940.

He was united in marriage May 8, 1946 to Mabel Dingman Peckinpaugh, and the couple continued to reside in Webster City. Mr. Gordon served as custodian at the Kendall Young Library for 17 years before retiring in April.

He is survived by one daughter and two sons, Mrs. Robert (Helen) Harris of Webster City; David Gordon of Mt. Clemons, Mich.; and Gene Gordon of Moline, Ill.; 27 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four stepsons and one stepdaughter, Gaylan Peckinpaugh, Gerald Peckinpaugh and Ray Peckinpaugh, all of Indiana, Kenneth Peckinpaugh in the armed services in Germany and Mrs. Warren (Miriam) Hathway of Madrid; one brother and four sisters, Loren Gordon, Decatur, Ill., Mrs. Charles Roher of Donnelson, Iowa, Mrs. Joe Dingman and Mrs. Lillian Thornton, both of Redwood City, Calif., and Mrs. Mary E. Gordon of Los Angeles, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 26, 1959; one son and one daughter; by his parents and five brothers.

Mr. Gordon was a member of the Nazarene church.
