Willis E. Welp. 64, Jewell, died Jan. 3. 1993 at his home. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Elim Lutheran Church in Randall with the Rev. John Wogsland officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery in Randall. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the South Hamilton High School gymnasium. Visitation is this afternoon and evening at the Becker Funeral Home in Jewell with the family present from 5-7 p.m.

Willis E. Welp. son of Eppo and Bertha (Mechaelsen) Welp, was born Feb. 13, 1928 in Kamrar. He graduated from Kamrar High School in 1945 and Webster City Junior College in 1949. On Aug. 17, 1951, he married Dorothy Marie Dick at the Presbyterian Church in Kamrar. He then graduated from Iowa State University in 1954 and received his master's degree in 1959 from Colorado State University in Greeley. Throughout the years, he taught and coached in Webster City, Randall, Blairsburg and Ventura. Since 1959, he was principal of the South Hamilton Elementary School.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons and daughters-in-law, Dick and Nancy Welp of Forest City and Bradley and Jana Welp of Brandon, S.D.; daughters and son-in law, Barbara Helfter of Forest City and Mary and Scott Simms of Glenwood; mother-in-law, Marie Dick of Webster City; brothers, Marion of Kamrar, Lloyd of Davenport and Edwin of Ames; sisters, Irene Fonken and Dorothy Donahue, both of Kamrar, and Jean Danielle of Branson, Mo.; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen; daughter, Jane Helen; and grandson, Patrick Helfter.

He was a member of the Elim Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School and was a member of the church council. He was also a member of the Jewell Lions Club, currently serving as president.

A memorial fund has been established and gifts may be sent to the Welp residence at 2756 350th Street, Jewell Iowa 50130.
