Johannes Olsen was born in Christiana (now Oslo) Norway April 3, 1871 and died at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Ill. on June 3, 1902. [Johannes Olsen was bitten by a mad dog and taken to Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Ill. for treatment. He died June 3, 1901 of hydrophobia. Several other people were also bitten but they survived.] In 1880 he came to America with his parents, and, being strong and industrious, he soon became a helpful son and generous brother. In early manhood he began an honorable business career which was successful to the end, and in which he made a record of unrelenting honesty, integrity, and industry. All who knew him were his friends, his natural frankness and whole hearted manliness commanded friendship. His kindness and generosity to those who depended upon him knew no bounds.

He was married to Miss Evelyn A. Sexe, on January 26, 1899, he was an indulgent husband, and the affectionate father of a daughter, Viola, now 15 months old.

Besides his circle of friends as wide as his acquaintanceship, there remain to mourn his untimely taking away to the peaceful realm of rest, his widow and daughter, his mother, three sisters; Mrs. Josephine Sanford, Miss Anna E., cashier of the State Bank of Ellsworth, Miss Emilie, teacher of the primary department of our school, and two brothers, Albert in the United States Postal Service at Seattle, Wash., and Joseph, junior member of the firm of W.H. Richards and Company. His work among us is done, his master has called him home to rest.

His funeral was held June 5, 1901 with burial at Homewood Cemetery at Ellsworth, Iowa.
