Lee (Mrs. Carl) Hayne, 78, a longtime Webster City businesswoman, died Monday evening, May 7, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, where she had been a patient for two days. She had been in failing health for several years. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the Foster Funeral Home, Rev. Ward Malloy officiating. Burial will be in the Algona Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home is after 5 p.m. tonight until time of service Thursday.

Lela Esther Houseman, daughter of T.P. and Maude (Crowell) Houseman, was born Nov. 7, 1911, in Reynoldsville, Ill. She graduated from the Anna-Jonesboro, Ill., High School. She married Carl L. Hayne on May 29, 1943 in Hannibal, Mo.

The couple resided in Peoria, Ill., where Mrs. Hayne operated a beauty salon. They moved to Webster City in 1945, and established Haynes Jewelry in Webster City and Story City. In 1948, she became owner of Lee's Glass and China Shoppe in Webster City, which she owned and operated until her retirement in July 1979. The couple continued to reside in Webster City, and wintered in Mesa, Ariz.

She is survived by her husband, Carl, Webster City; one sister and two brothers, Mary Beckwith, Farmington, Ill.; Robert Houseman, Jonesboro, Ill.; Bill Houseman of Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Hayne was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ of Webster City; the Hamilton County Hospital Auxiliary; she helped deliver Meals on Wheels; and was a member of the Webster City Country Club, where she was club champion several times.
