Mrs. E. Raymond (Frances) Lear, 74, longtime Webster City resident, died Monday noon at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. She had been in ill health the past seven years.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul D. Williamson officiating and with burial in Evergreen cemetery at Jewell.

The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral home until 10 a.m. Wednesday when it will be taken to the church.

Frances A. Maynard, daughter of Gilbert P. and Christine Staats Maynard, was born Oct. 31, 1902 at Rairton, Ill. She was reared and educated at Indianola, Iowa, going to Simpson college there.

She moved to Jewell in 1925 and was employed there as a high school teacher.

On Aug. 16, 1927, she was united in marriage to E. Raymond Lear, and the couple lived in Jewell, moving to Webster City in 1938 when Mr. Lear became sheriff of Hamilton county. She had resided here until going to Friendship Haven in 1970.

She is survived by her husband and four daughters, Mrs. Gilbert (Sara) Bougie of Cedar Lake, Ind., Mrs. Clark (Christine) Bening of Des Moines, Mrs. John (Martha) Larson of Tallahassee, Fla. and Mrs. Richard (Linda) Fincham of Iowa City; 13 grandchildren; one sister and one brother, Mrs. Kathleen Barker and Gilbert P. Maynard, both of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Lear was a member of the Asbury United Methodist church and was an active civic leader, serving as a former president of the J.E., P.E.O. Sisterhood, and a former president of the Webster City Women's club. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Pi Beta Phi sorority.
