Bardinus P. Holt, 83, longtime Ellsworth resident and retired farmer died Wednesday morning at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where he had been a patient for the past two weeks.

Ill since February, Mr. Holt had been in serious condition the past four weeks. Death was attributed to leukemia.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran church. The Rev. C. J. Naglestad will officiate with burial in Homewood cemetery. Terhune funeral home of Jewell will be in charge of services.

Mr. Holt is survived by two children: Miss M. Theresa Holt of Ellsworth and Bayard Holt of Ellsworth. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Julie Ann and Marijean Holt. A son, Raymond, died in 1928, and his wife died in 1942.

Mr. Holt was an active member of the Trinity church.

[Bardinus P. Holt was born Aug. 5, 1864 to Martha Ostrus Holt and Peter Holt at Strandsogn, Norway, he being the sixth son of a family of eight boys.

In 1876, accompanied by his parents, one older brother, Marselius, and two younger brothers, Albert and Peter, he came to America, settling in Lee county, Ill. The four older brothers, Knute, Ole, John and Bertil, had emigrated to America several years before and had located in Illinois and Iowa.

Bardinus lived in Illinois until the spring of 1880 when in company with his parents and several brothers he moved to a farm in Rose Grove township, Hamilton county, Iowa. In 1885 they moved to the present farmstead one mile east and a quarter mile north of Ellsworth, where he resided for 62 years.

On June 17, 1896, he was married to Inga Olson who died in 1902. Two children were born to them, both dying in infancy.

Sept. 29, 1904, he was married to Emilie Olsen, who died Nov. 27, 1942. Three children were born to this union, one of them preceding him in death, Raymond Peter passed away at the College hospital, Ames, Dec. 28, 1928, at the age of 20 years.

Bardinus Holt was the last of the eight sons of the family of Martha and Peter Holt. He had been in poor health since Feb. 1947. Since Nov. 21, he had been bedfast due to the blood disease, leukemia, which claimed his life. He died Wed., Dec. 17, 1947 at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames, where he had been a patient for the last thirteen days.]
