Archie Sanford, 73, longtime Ellsworth resident, died yesterday at 12:30 p.m. at his home. He had been in failing health the past year and nine months.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran church in Ellsworth.

Archie Sanford was born Dec. 7, 1887 at Des Moines, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Chilson C. Sanford. He later moved to Ellsworth where he attended and was graduated from the Ellsworth high school.

He was married Oct. 1, 1913 to Ida Kallem at Ellsworth. Mr. Sanford was a grain elevator manager for 33 years before retiring because of ill health. He resided at Ellsworth for 29 years, 34 years at LuVerne, Iowa and 9 years at Ames.

He is survived by his wife and four children: Willard Sanford, Milaca, Minn., Mrs. Walter Keil, Traer, Mrs. J. W. Gerhard, Hammond, Ind., and Mrs. Carl Wright, Rancho Cordona, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Jess Lindebak, LuVerne and Mrs. Art Hof of Humboldt.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Frank, and a sister, Mrs. Thomas Thompson.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church.
