Two Suicides in County at Homer and Randall

JAKE STAGE, JAKE EGLAND FOUND DEAD

Stage Probably Dead Since Thursday; Both Used Revolvers

LIVED IN A CABIN

Egland, 73, Was Pioneer in Randall; Body Found by Niece

The bodies of Jake Stage, 55, of near Homer, and Jake Egland, 73, of Randall, were found in their homes over the week end, both deaths being suicides.

Dr. W. B. Lewis, coroner, conducted investigations and said this morning that both men took their lives by shooting themelves in the head with revolvers.

He said that Stage's death probably occurred Thursday evening, although the body was not found until Saturday night when Everett Van Engen and Russell Doughton drove over to his cabin to learn why he had not been out.

Stage lived alone in his cabin on the Des Moines river, south of Homer. He had a small garden patch and made his living by selling produce from that and by trapping. His nearest relatives are a brother, Lee, who was taken to the state hospital for the insane at Cherokee three years ago, and an uncle living at Eldora. His father died several years ago.

Foster's are in charge of services which will be held tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock at the funeral home with the Rev. Manson E. Miller officiating. Burial will be made in Eldora.

Egland, who was born and reared near Randall, had been in failing health for many years. He lived with his brother-in-law, H. B. Hanson, and assisted him in a harness shop at Randall.

His death occurred early yesterday morning. The body was found by a niece, Mrs. Irma Paggett, who went to his room to call him for breakfast. The revolver shot was not heard in the house because Mr. Hanson is quite deaf.

Funeral services will be held at the Hanson home at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with burial in Randall [Mamrelund cemetery]. Henderson's, of Story City, in charge.
