Wendell Yates, 83, of Webster City, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church of Webster City with Rev. Stephen Meyer, celebrant. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, north of Stratford. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.

Wendell Thomas Yates, son of Eldrige and Eunice Passwaters Yates, was born January 25, 1931 at Galt, Iowa. He received his education in rural schools. On January 5, 1957, he married Ardys Rae Gabrielson at St. Thomas Aquinas in Webster City. The couple had resided in Webster City and surrounding areas. He had been employed at Webster City Products, in the receiving department, for 46 years, 6 months and 6 days. He retired in April of 1996. He also worked at Farmers Bank as a custodian, part-time. They had wintered in Florence, AZ for the last 14 years.

Wendy is survived by his wife, Ardys; daughters and son-in-law, Shelley and Charles Clausen of Stanhope; Leann Yates of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Jennifer Yates of Carlisle; ten grandchildren, Seth Clausen, Sarah Clausen, Erin Dietz, Magen Jones, Eric Yates, Chance Yates, Garrett Yates, Zach Oldham, Nick Oldham, Mikayla Foster; two great-grandchildren and one on the way; siblings, Andrew "Andy" Yates, Larry "Joe" (Sandy) Yates, Janet Yates, Kathy Yates, LaRita Manship; sister-in-law, Verona Yates, all of Webster City, nephew, Rick Woodard; many nieces and nephews.

Wendy was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James "Jim" Yates, John Yates, and Dean Yates; sister, Maxine Fitchhorn; sister in infancy, Evelyn Marie Yates; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Francis "Babe" and Jean Woodard; brothers-in-law, Russell Fitchhorn, John Manship; and sister-in-law, Charlene Yates.

He was a former member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Wendy was a former member of the Hamilton County Saddle Club. He enjoyed watching westerns, pitching softball for the WC Merchants and bowling in the WC Bowling League.
