Orlin Gilbert Dies at 87

Orlin L. Gilbert, 87, a former Kamrar businessman, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines. He had been ill the past three weeks following a fall in which he had fractured a hip.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Foster funeral home with burial to be in Graceland cemetery.

Orlin LeRoy Gilbert, son of Frank and Mary Gilbert, was born July 5, 1874 at Gilbert, Iowa, and was reared and educated in that community. In 1905, he moved to Kamrar where he owned and operated a general merchandise store.

He was united in marriage Jan. 10, 1912, to Dena DeGroot, and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert continued to reside in Kamrar until 1950 when he retired from business and they moved to Ames, the family home since.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons: Mrs. Max (Rowena) Beattie of Runnells, Iowa, Mrs. J. A. (Violet) Henderson of Ankeny, Grover D. Gilbert of Eureka Springs, Ark., and Leslie F. Gilbert of Rogers, Ark. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Lottie Strever, Clarion, Mrs. Ruby Gordon, Idabell, Okla.; Mrs. Eva Sarchett, Skiatook, Okla., Mrs. Jennie Spurrier, Fresno, Calif., and Lyman Gilbert of Westminster, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

Mr. Gilbert was a member of the Methodist church in Kamrar.

On Jan. 7 of this year, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Kamrar Methodist church.
