Ed Flugstad Dies Suddenly

Ed M. Flugstad, 78, died Saturday evening at 7:15 at his home 1015 Second street. Although he had been in failing health the past several months, his death was very sudden.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. Roy Nelson officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.
Born Near Stanhope
Edward M. Flugstad, son of Matthew and Bertha Flugstad, was born July 20, 1871, on a farm in Clear Lake township, near Stanhope. When he was a small boy, he moved with his parents to a farm near Flugstad, Iowa, a small town which was named after his father.
He received his elementary schooling in the rural school near Flugstad and grew to young manhood in that community. In 1898, he was united in marriage to Miss Tala Olsen, and Mr. and Mrs. Flugstad started housekeeping on a farm near Flugstad. His wife preceded him in death in 1918.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
On Nov. 20, 1930, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Maude Russell, and Mr. and Mrs. Flugstad have resided at 1015 Second street since that time, with the exception of a few years they lived on the farm.
List Survivors
He is survived by his wife, one step-daughter, Mrs. James Halliday of Webster City, three step-grandchildren, Mrs. Norman Bloomquist, Robert and John Halliday, all of Flugstad. There are also two great-grandchildren, Suzanne Bloomquist, and Roseann Halliday; two brothers, Pete and John Flugstad, both living in Montana, and four nephews.
Mr. Flugstad was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was a man of strong character and of kind and generous nature. During his many years residence in the Flugstad and Webster City communities he had made many warm friends for his life was giving to good works in his family and neighborhood.
