Death of Samuel Martin:
Samuel Martin died at the home of his son, R. H. Martin, seven miles south of town, Thursday at 10 O'clock a.m., after a lingering illness from cancer, at the ripe old age of 93 years. Mr. Martin was a pioneer of the earlier days and made his home in this county for many years. The funeral of the late Samuel Martin will be held tomorrow forenoon at 10 o'clock at the home of R.H. Martin, seven miles south of town . Rev. Burns of the Christian church will conduct the service.

Samuel Martin was born in Yadkin county, North Carolina, June 23, 1809. In 1831 he married to Jane Pierce of Athens, Tenn. They moved to Monroe county, KY., where they resided until 1845, when they moved to Iverton (should read Overton) Co. Tenn. In 1856 he moved to Hamilton county, Iowa, where he resided until his death. Died Nov 6, 1902, aged 93 years, four months and fourteen days. Of the eight children, three are yet living.
