John Luppes, Sr., well known farmer living six miles north of Jewell, died at the hospital in Webster City Saturday evening. Mr. Luppes fell and broke a hip Thursday of last week, his death following two days later of resulting complications.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at one o’clock at the home and at 1:30 at the Presbyterian church; the pastor Rev. H. F.Sinning officiated.

John Luppes was the son of Hiram and Harmka Luppes. He was born June 23, 1863 on a ship in Holland waters; died Feb. 20, 1943, at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 27 days. His boyhood days were spent on the ship that his parents owned. When he was 17 he came with his parents to America, living on a farm near Ackley for 5 years. He came to Hamilton county when 22 years of age, locating east of Kamrar where he has lived ever since.

Mr. Luppes married Engel Welp August 17, 1893. Nine children were born to this union. His wife passed away a year ago, on Jan. 31, 1942, and two sons and two daughters preceded him in death. Two brothers and a sister also preceded him in death.

The five surviving children are: Mrs. George Schaa, Mrs. Robert Denekas and John J. Luppes, all of Kamrar, Mrs. Leonard Janes, of Jewell, and Mrs. Edward Denekas, of Blairsburg. He also is survived by 11 grandchildren.

Mr. Luppes as a child was baptized in the Holland Reformed Church, and during his residence in this community held membership in the Presbyterian church and was active and generous in the work of the church. He was a man of thrift and industry, a man of strict integrity whom all who knew him held in high regard. He was a kind husband and father, a good neighbor and friend, a worthy citizen.
