Harris R. Stafford, 95, of the Mayflower Community in Grinnell died February 27, 2010, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date this summer.

Harris was born on August 17, 1914, in Blairsburg, Iowa, the son of Harris Adelbert and Mary Agnes McNee Stafford. He was a 1932 graduate of Blairsburg High School and a 1938 graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in Agronomy. During this period he also served as 2nd Lt. in the Officers Reserve Corp and received a medical discharge from the armed forces in the fall of 1942.
On September 24, 1939, he was united in marriage to Ila Jane McDonald, in Logan, Iowa. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and served in several communities in Iowa including, Logan, Audubon, Pocahontas, and Creston. In 1942, he was appointed as an Administrative Supervisor for the Department of Agriculture offices in the south-half of the state of Iowa. He resigned in 1943 to help his father in the farm equipment business in Webster City and following the death of his father in 1950 he assumed the responsibility and managed the business until 1957 when he sold the business.
On September 1, 1957, he accepted the position of executive director of the Mayflower Community in Grinnell, a position he held until his retirement in 1978.
Survivors include four sons, Lee (Kaye) of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Roger (Nora) of Harker Heights, Texas, David of Lucas, Iowa, and Wayne of Amenia, North Dakota; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ila in 2007; one brother, Cameron Stafford; and a brother and sister in infancy.
