Theodore M. Cormaney, 72, formerly of Webster City, died at home in Washington, DC on December 29, 2009. Cause of death was spinocerebellar ataxia. After spending 20 years in staff positions in the US House and Senate, Mr. Cormaney joined the private sector, working for various firms in the defense industry. Later he established his own government relations consulting firm, and also originated an online intelligence news summary, Hillint.

He was born in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, on 2 Jul 1937 to Melvin (Muggs) & Margaret Cormaney. Mr. Cormaney grew up in Webster City, where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955. He interrupted enrollment at Iowa State College to enter the U.S. Air Force and later completed his education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Mr. Cormaney was a volunteer at the National Cathedral for over ten years, and a member of its Washington Committee. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patricia of Washington, DC, an uncle, Carl Cormaney of Webster City, and an aunt Daisy Hill of Ellsworth.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2010, in Bethlehem Chapel at the Washington National Cathedral. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Washington National Cathedral, attn: Susan T. Abbott, Massachusetts, and Wisconsin Avenues, NW Washington, DC 20016, or The Washington Rehabilitation Hospital, attn: Mary Ryan, 102 Irving St. NW, Washington, DC 20010.
