Zella Hayes, 78, of Webster City, died Nov. 12 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Foster Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Tuesday until the time of service.
Zella Miolene Williams, daughter of Ole and Maude Crosby Williams, was born Aug. 5, 1917, at Eagle Grove. She moved with her parents to Fort Dodge where she attended school. She married Howard Nash and the couple resided in many locations around Iowa. He died in November 1948. During World War II, she was employed at the ordnance plant in Des Moines.
On Jan. 14, 1950, she married Edward Earl Hayes. The couple farmed, then later moved to Webster City. She had been employed at the Minute Café, Shady Oaks, Dermand’s Café, the Webster City Country Club, Kingsman Restaurant, the Elk’s Club and the Old West. Her husband preceded her in death in April 1976 and she retired and continued to reside in Webster City.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Edgar Higgins of Fort Dodge; son Merlyn Hayes of Webster City, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Keith in 1962, her parents, four brothers and one sister.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Webster City.
