Dorothy Gano Steenblock, age 83, of Kanawha, died, Monday, November 9, 2009 at the Belmond Medical Center.

Dorothy was born February, 26, 1926 in Washta, Iowa. In the early 1940's she moved to California where she worked at Maris Island running a switchboard and doing payroll for the military. While in California, she met Clark Gable, Gary Cooper and Curly of the Three Stooges. Later in the 1940's she moved back to Iowa and graduated from high school in Cherokee.

Dorothy married Harvey Steenblock on December 15, 1952 in Fort Dodge. They farmed the Steenblock family farm in Goodell for awhile and then bought a farm in Kanawha in 1957.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Susan (Jim) Adams of Webster City, and Brenda Steenblock of Belmond; two sons, Michael (Pat) Mongan of St. Charles, and Ralph Steenblock of Kanawha; a sister, Bonnie Ramirez and family of California; Jeanine McFarland, a special cousin of Rochester, Minn.; a granddaughter, Kelsie (Jerid) Lallak of Garner; three grandsons, Bruce (Julie) Adams of Ames, Clint (Kelley) Mongan of West Des Moines, and Joshua (Sarah) Mongan of St. Charles; three great-granddaughters, Katelyn Adams and Sadie and Ella Mongan; a sister-in-law, Dori Gano, a brother-in-law, Richard (Chea) Steenblock, a son-in-law, Bobby Kaster, and various nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Steenblock; a daughter, Colleen Kaster; her parents, Hes and Sophie Gano; Aunt Eva and Uncle Gus, whole helped raise her when her mother died when she was 6 years old; and one brother, Junior "Jack" Gano.

Visitation will be the Kanawha United Methodist Church, Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a public service to be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Kanawha United Methodist Church. The Reverend Cindy Morrison will be officiating. A private graveside service will follow the public funeral service at the Amsterdam Cemetery near Goodell.
