MR. RASMUSSEN RITES TODAY

I.S. (Sam) Rasmussen, 84, of 819 Prince St., Grinnell, died Saturday morning at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Grinnell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John McCallum officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Rasmus Thorsen and Dina Gunderson Rasmussen, he was born Feb. 7, 1892, near Stavanger, Norway. He came to the U.S. in 1911 and worked on a farm near Stanhope, Iowa.

On Dec. 25, 1914, he was married to Ragna Laurensa "Rachel" Lovig in Stanhope. The couple had 10 children. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Rasmussen moved to the Grinnell area and farmed southeast of town. Mrs. Rasmussen died in 1955, and Mr. Rasmussen continued to live on the farm until 1959 when he moved to Grinnell to make his home. He was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church.

Survivors include nine children, Mrs. Floyd (Dena) Durr of Malcom, Sevrin Rasmussen of Ketchican, Alaska, Terye Rasmussen of Mt. Hope, Kan., George R. Rasmussen of Bellevue, Neb., Gustav Rasmussen of Hawthorne, Calif., Robert Rasmussen of Seattle, Wash., Mark Rasmussen of Nevada, Iowa, Mrs. Larry (Marie) Smith of Oceanside, Calif., and John Rasmussen of Riverside, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel; a daughter, Anna Marie, who died in infancy; his parents; three brothers and four sisters.

Should friends desire, memorials in Mr. Rasmussen's name may be made to the United Methodist Church.
