Mary Helen Richardson Wehrheim, 86, longtime Webster City and Solon, Iowa resident died Thursday, July 23, 2009 at her home in Solon. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2009 at Brosh Chapel in Solon. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 28th at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Webster City with Fr. Scott Boone presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Foster Funeral Home in Webster City. Burial will follow in Calvery Cemetery. Brosh Chapel in Solon is handling local arrangements.

Helen Wehrheim was born April 27, 1923 in Homer, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Cora Yates Richardson. She graduated from Webster City Lincoln High School in 1942. She married Eugene V. Wehrheim April 12, 1944 in Webster City. They lived and raised their family in Webster City where in addition to helping her husband with his business, she managed the swimming pool office in the summer, was active in the Catholic Church and was a Cub Scout leader. In 1971 they moved to Solon, Iowa where she owned and operated an antique business before taking the position of bookkeeper at the Solon Care Center.

She is survived by a son, Eugene V. Wehrheim, Jr. and wife Nancy; son-in-law Robert Hawkins; four grandchildren, Vince and Rachel Wehrheim, Dustin Hawkins, Cody Hawkins and wife Lisa; and two great grandchildren, Ashley and Austin Hawkins; a brother Morris Richardson; a sister Pauline Richardson and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene in 1996; her daughter Vicki Carol Hawkins; sisters Francis Richardson and Dorothy Bohlen; and brothers, Sterling (Tod), Norman (Sib) and Burt Richardson.

She was a loving and devoted mother who put her family first.

She was happiest when she could help someone.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be used for further development of the E.V. Wehrheim Neighborhood Park in Webster City.
